Ways of Seeing: Bush Kala presents artworks and video recordings produced during a collaborative project with five female artists from culturally diverse backgrounds living in the Top End of the Northern Territory. The participating artists are Glynis Lee (Australian-born Chinese), three First Nations artists - Angelina Lewis, Lorraine Williams, and Linda Yarrowin - and Nena Zanos (German-Australian).

The project focuses on the natural environment, particularly local plants, and explores different ways of seeing through each artist’s personal and cultural relationship with their chosen plant(s). The works, created at Nena Zanos’ Green House Studio in Wagait Beach, NT, include prints, cyanotypes, mixed media, and video recordings, blending artistic expression with culture, language, and storytelling.

Video recordings play a central role, documenting cultural knowledge shared by the First Nations artists. These recordings serve as a vital means of passing knowledge to current and future generations and engaging the wider community. This project was supported by a Creative Australia arts grant.
